Former Justice Minister and President’s Counsel Dr. Wijedasa Rajapaksa says that if the proposed Tenancy Act is passed in this manner, the country’s law will be completely distorted and public confidence in the law will be destroyed.
The proposed new act will protect the rights of a person residing in a property illegally. However, the former minister points out that the legal owner of that property will not receive such protection.
Pointing out that this is a major distortion and that it will cause people to fall into a trap, former Minister Wijedasa Rajapaksa says that this act will create a situation in the future where it will not be possible to evict residents even legally.
