Even if MPs’ pensions are cut, the President will receive two pensions

Former Justice Minister Dr. Wijedasa Rajapaksa has expressed his views on the bill abolishing the pensions of MPs. The minister, who thought that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake had drafted the bill in such a way that he would be entitled to two pensions, says.

“The current President has introduced a new bill to abolish the pensions of MPs. It is clear that he has brought the bill to protect his two pensions.

According to the new bill abolishing the pensions of MPs, even if he serves as the President for five days, he will be entitled to a pension for that. In addition, since he has retired as a MP, he will also be entitled to that pension.

In this regard, the two pensions are not only for President Anura Kumara Dissanayake but also for all those who have been Presidents for five years in Parliament.”

Wijayadasa Rajapaksa said this while addressing a media conference in Colombo.
