In the future, in addition to the traffic law, action will be taken under the criminal law if you drive recklessly and carelessly, says Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Traffic Control and Road Safety W.G.J. Senadhira. He stated this while speaking at a press conference held yesterday.
The DIG further said that there has been an increase in the number of road accidents this year compared to last year, and the main reason for this is the use of drugs and alcohol. Accordingly, he stated that the IGP has given orders to take action under the criminal law in addition to the traffic law for such accidents in the future.
“Compared to last year, road accidents have increased by 271 this year. The number of deaths has increased by 317. However, there has been a general decrease in serious accidents. The main reason for the increase in these accidents is the negligence and carelessness of our drivers, which has had a special impact on this. We need to send a message to many drivers who use vehicles that drugs and alcohol are the reason for this. In the future, the IGP has informed that in addition to the traffic law, action will be taken under the criminal law if there is alcohol, drugs and careless driving,” the DIG said.
