According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data, air quality across Sri Lanka is still at a moderately unhealthy level.
Several areas including Kaduruwela, Chilaw, Wanduragala, Digana, Madampagama, Hungama, Akkaraipattu, Kalawana, Mulliyawalai, Pannankandi, Adampan and Uppuveli, as well as Jaffna and Colombo, have reported moderately unhealthy air quality levels.
A senior official of the National Building Research Organization has said that the decline in air quality is mainly due to local pollution sources and the prevailing atmospheric conditions limiting the dispersion of pollutants.
This situation is expected to persist until around March next year.
The official further said that this situation can particularly affect children, the elderly and those with respiratory diseases and the public is advised to take necessary precautions.
