All schools except 147 will reopen on the 16th.

The Ministry of Education today (09) made an official announcement regarding the schools that will reopen on December 16 for the second phase of the third school term.

Secretary to the Ministry of Education Nalaka Kaluwewa expressed his views in this regard at a media briefing held this afternoon.

Accordingly, all schools in the Western, Southern, Northern, Eastern, Sabaragamuwa and North Central provinces are scheduled to reopen on December 16.

Accordingly, out of the total number of schools in the country, which is 10,076, 9,929 schools will reopen on that day.

However, the Secretary to the Ministry of Education stated that 147 schools belonging to 3 provinces will not be able to reopen on that day.

He stated that 5 schools belonging to the Welimada Education Zone, 3 schools belonging to the Bandarawela Education Zone, 7 schools belonging to the Badulla Education Zone, 5 schools belonging to the Passara Education Zone and 6 schools belonging to the Wiyaluwa Education Zone in the Uva Province will no longer be opened.

A school belonging to the Mahawa Education Zone and 5 schools belonging to the Ibbagamuwa Education Zone, as well as 6 schools in the Northwestern Province, will also not be opened on that day.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Education stated that 115 schools in the Central Province will not be opened for educational activities on December 16.

4 schools in the Kandy Education Zone, 8 schools in the Denuwara Education Zone, 8 schools in the Gampola Education Zone, 7 schools in the Walapane Education Zone, 15 schools in the Hanguranketha Education Zone, 17 schools in the Kotmale Education Zone, 38 schools in the Matale Education Zone, 3 schools in the Nawula Education Zone and 15 schools in the Nuwara Eliya Education Zone will not open.
