United National Party (UNP) Assistant Leader Akila Viraj Kariyawasam stated today (02) that the official statistics issued regarding the disaster situation in the past few days are incorrect and some deaths have not been counted properly. Although the official death toll has exceeded 400, he stated that the number cannot be accurate as more deaths are being reported.
“Around 21 vehicles have been swept away in the Thulhiriya area alone, and similar reports are also being received from areas such as Kurunegala. Therefore, it is certain that the official statistics provided cannot be accurate,” he stressed.
The UNP Assistant Leader further commented, “It is essential to make an accurate assessment of the loss of life, injuries and damaged property.”
