The Valachchenai Magistrate’s Court has ordered the release on bail of five suspects, including the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Valachchenai Koralepattu Pradeshiya Sabha, involved in the incident of removing the archaeological nameplates in the Batticaloa district. This was after the suspects surrendered to the court yesterday (25).
Valachchenai Magistrate M. I. Ahmed Rathip ordered that each person be released on a personal bail of Rs. 500,000 each and that the removed nameplates be installed by December 15th after discussions between both parties.
The four accused in the incident of removing the direction signs leading to archaeological sites maintained by the Valachchena Kiran Archaeological Office in Batticaloa, Valachchena Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Sundaralingam Sudhakaran, Vice Chairman Kulandavel Padmanithan, Pradeshiya Sabha members Ananda Sivarasa, Sidambaran Pillai, and Shanmuganathan, appeared in court through former Member of Parliament and lawyer M. A. Sumandhiran.
