Sathosa stores are closing. Dhammika Perera opens a new supermarket chain.

Former Provincial Councilor Waruna Rajapaksa says that a large number of Sathosa stores have been decided to be closed. He also says that information has been received that Lanka Sathosa Chairman Samitha Perera has resigned, and it is said that this was due to personal reasons. He said this while expressing his views on his ”Countdown with Waruna” YouTube program.

Waruna Rajapaksa says that before Samitha Perera came to Sathosa, he was a head of the “Spar” supermarket chain, so there was a problem with his relationships at the time of his appointment.

However, Sathosa has decided to close 130 stores by now, of which 30 have already been closed and another 100 are scheduled to be closed, he says. He says that despite the talk that the government should privatize it because it cannot do business, establishments like the Ja-Ela Sathosa Store, which reports sales of between five and six hundred thousand rupees (Rs. 500,000 and 600,000) per day, are not making any losses.

At a time when Sathosa has decided to close 100 of its outlets, businessman Dhammika Perera has announced that he will enter the retail business and open 100 new supermarkets. He says that Dhammika Perera had previously made a proposal to take over Sathosa.
