100 electrical engineers resign against restructuring .

It is reported that 2000 employees of the Sri Lanka Electricity Board are preparing to resign in protest against the restructuring. Sources in the Electricity Board say that nearly 100 electrical engineers are among the group.

During the restructuring of the Sri Lanka Electricity Board, its employees will have the opportunity to be assigned to several companies and employees who do not want to retire under a voluntary compensation scheme. It is reported that nearly 2000 people, including engineers, have decided to resign in response.

It is reported that at present, the engineering capacity of the Sri Lanka Electricity Board should be 1000, but only 600 engineers are employed there. Employees of the Lanka Electricity Board say that the departure of 100 of those employees could make it impossible to even maintain the company.
