Electricity workers intensify their fight

The trade unions of the Ceylon Electricity Board have decided to further intensify their strike action, which began at 12.00 midnight on September 4th. Accordingly, the Ceylon Electricity Board trade unions say that they will engage in a strike action to refrain from participating in procurement and tender processes from midnight today.

This is based on 16 demands, including the informal proposals in the restructuring process of the Ceylon Electricity Board, illegal actions that cause great inconvenience to employees, the provision of outstanding incentives and the provision of due promotions.

As a second step, the electricity workers who had taken sick leave on the 17th and 18th had also organized a protest movement in front of the Ceylon Electricity Board head office in Colombo Fort.
