While we were opposition members, we looked at gambling from the perspective of values and the well-being of the people of the country, but since the National People’s Power (NPP) took over the government, we have to face the current reality of gambling, said Nihal Abeysinghe, General Secretary of the National People’s Power (NPP), MP, while expressing his views during the parliamentary debate on the Gambling Regulatory Authority Bill.
He stated that it is a fundamental responsibility of a government to properly regulate the gambling in the country and prepare the necessary legal framework for it.
He also pointed out that whether we like it or not, we cannot escape this responsibility.
Mr. Abeysinghe further explained that the program that is currently being implemented, whether we like it or not, is to regulate the gambling in the country. He emphasized that this is a measure taken for the benefit of the entire people.
