It is reported that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is preparing to move out of his official residence in Wijerama. This is in the backdrop of the government passing a bill to remove the privileges of retired presidents.
With the passage of the new bill, former presidents are not entitled to an official house to spend their retirement.
Accordingly, it is understood that he is currently looking for a suitable rented house.
Although the former president would have preferred to move to his home in Medamulana, he has taken this step considering the inconvenience of traveling a considerable distance to Colombo and the inconvenience of receiving treatment for his medical conditions.
