Derailed Gallu Kumari being rerailed

The Railway Department says that the work to derail the Gallu Kumari express train that derailed near Gintota railway station on the coastal railway line is continuing.

The train, which was running from Maradana railway station to Beliatta, derailed yesterday (16) afternoon.

As a result, the Railway Department had taken steps to restrict train traffic on the coastal line up to Ambalangoda railway station.

The Railway Department stated that the railway line has also been severely damaged due to the train derailment and its reconstruction work is currently underway.

Meanwhile, it is stated that the trains scheduled to run this morning will start from Dodanduwa, Hikkaduwa, Kahawa and Ambalangoda railway stations located after Gintota railway station.

It is also reported that the train scheduled to run from Beliatta has been moved to Galle railway station.
