Greens won the 3rd match of the Twenty20 League organized by Sri Lanka Cricket by 5 wickets today (08).
The Greens team won the toss and elected to bat first. The Greys team scored 163 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. In reply, the Greens team scored 165 runs for the loss of only 5 wickets and won the match.
The Greys team, who came out to bat first, managed to get off to a good start. Dinesh Chandimal and Niroshan Dickwella managed to add a 39-run partnership for the first wicket of their innings. Dinesh Chandimal was out for 14 runs off 13 balls with a four and a six, and the partnership for that wicket was broken.
Subsequently, Niroshan Dickwella and Lahiru Udara managed to add 42 runs off 26 balls for the second wicket. The partnership for that wicket was broken with the dismissal of Lahiru Udara. Lahiru Udara scored 18 runs off 13 balls with 2 fours and a six.
His dismissal led to the dismissal of Niroshan Dickwella, the highest run-scorer of the innings. He scored 52 runs off 37 balls with 6 fours.
After his dismissal, Nuwanindu Fernando scored 18 runs off 20 balls with a four, Charith Asalanka scored 12 runs off 17 balls and Chamindu Wickramasinghe scored 14 runs off 11 balls with two fours.
By the end of the Greys innings, Ramesh Mendis was unbeaten on 14 runs off 9 balls with a six and Vijayakant Vyaskanth was unbeaten on 8 runs off 2 balls with two fours.
In terms of wicket-taking, Kamindu Mendis and Nuwan Udara took two wickets each, while Trevin Mathew also took a wicket.
The Greens, who entered the field for the reply, were able to remove the first wicket of the innings at 9 runs. However, from then on, the Greens took control of the match and managed to achieve the target with 17 balls and 5 wickets remaining.
Opener Kamil Mishara played a major role in this. He scored 52 runs in 34 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. He joined Bhanuka Rajapaksa for the second wicket and added 58 runs in 30 balls and Sadeera Samarawickrama for the third wicket and added 55 runs in 32 balls.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 38 runs off 20 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes and Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 36 runs off 23 balls with 3 fours.
In addition to them, Pawan Ratnayake scored 17 runs off 15 balls with a four and a six and captain Kamindu Mendis scored 2 runs off 3 balls while Chamika Karunaratne scored 7 runs off 2 balls with a six as the match ended in victory.
In terms of wickets, Wijayakantha Viyaskanth took 2 wickets for 24 runs while Charith Asalanka, Binura Fernando and Mahish Theekshana took a wicket each.
