The Supreme Court today (05) ruled that the decision taken by the board of directors of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation to grant promotions and salary increments to 55 employees who were members of the National Employees Union who worked at the corporation in 2015 is contrary to law and is null and void.
This judgment was pronounced after hearing a fundamental rights petition filed by employees including P.P.S. Premasiri, Secretary of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation’s Independent Employees Union, Mudith Siriwardena, Secretary of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation’s Technical Officers’ Union, and others challenging the granting of the relevant promotions and salary increments.
After a lengthy hearing, Supreme Court Justice Janaka de Silva, with the concurrence of Justices S. Thurai Raja and Mahinda Samayawardena, pronounced this judgment.
