The Sri Lanka Medical Association says that one in ten adults in the country has kidney disease.
The treasurer of the association, Dr. Udana Ratnapala, a specialist in kidney disease, said that diabetes and high blood pressure are the main causes of kidney disease.
Commenting further on this matter, Dr. Udana Ratnapala said:
“The kidney disease situation is so serious now that we think that one in every 10 adults is a kidney patient. We are reminded of the undiagnosed water-related kidney disease that we saw in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Kataragama provinces. That was our basic problem between 2005 and 2015.
But now the situation has changed. Now the situation is that kidney disease is primarily caused by diabetes and high blood pressure. ”
