S.J.B. proposes to abolish salaries, vehicles, security, and pensions of MPs

Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Hesha Withanage says that he will bring a motion to abolish the privileges of MPs as a private member’s motion.

Addressing a media briefing, he said that it will not be possible to bring it on the first day of Parliament and that the motion is ready to be brought on a later day. The motions he hopes to bring are as follows.

Completely stopping the breakfast and lunch provided to MPs.

Abolishing the 10 million rupee loan provided at low interest.

Removing the security of all MPs and cabinet ministers.

If official residences in Colombo are provided to ministers, they should be provided on a rental basis and the rent should be donated to the Mahapola Fund.

Removing the one hundred thousand rupees provided for an office.

Abolition of all allowances including salary, vehicle allowance, pension and other allowances of a Member of Parliament.

Provision of Madiwela MP House as hostel facilities for university students.

Termination of insurance cover of Rs. 1 million
