The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights issued a report asking the Sri Lankan government to acknowledge the involvement of the Sri Lankan security forces and their affiliated paramilitary groups in decades of disappearances and to apologize.
The report states that the Government of Sri Lanka should take meaningful measures to uncover and reveal the fate or whereabouts of the tens of thousands of people who have been forced to disappear over the decades.
The report also states that the Sri Lankan government should take meaningful measures to hold those responsible for the enforced disappearances accountable.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, said that this report reminds us that the victims of enforced disappearances can never be forgotten.
