Wijedasa is appointed as the president of S.L.F.P

The SLFP Executive Council met today at a hotel in Kotte, where former President Maithripala Sirisena has resigned as party president.

The SLFP Executive Council has unanimously decided to appoint Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapaksa as the new chairman.

However, former President Maithripala Sirisena’s party decided to appoint Minister of Justice Wijedasa Rajapaksa as the Acting President of SLFP at the executive committee meeting held on April 21.

But on April 24, the Colombo District Court issued an injunction against the decision of the SLFP. Later Wijayadasa Rajapakse filed a petition seeking suspension of the interim order, but it was rejected by the Court of Appeal on May 7.
