President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s statement in Parliament yesterday that the former president of the Sri Lanka Bar Association, Saliya Peiris, had an ambition to become the Prime Minister before May 9, 2022, President’s Counsel Salia Peiris today rejected.
In a post on his Facebook account, he says that the President mentioned his name in Parliament and falsely claimed that he had the ambition to become the Prime Minister.
He further mentions that these false statements have been made under the guise of parliamentary immunity for which the President cannot answer.
He said in his message that the BASL proposals presented in May 2022 were never an individual affair, they were well thought out by its Executive Committee and approved by the Bar. “With the intention of proposing a solution to the crisis, keeping in mind the needs of Sri Lanka and its people,” the message said.
