Our court reporters say that 9 Iranian nationals who pleaded guilty to high charges of bringing heroin into Sri Lanka 4 years ago and possessing and trafficking it were sentenced to life imprisonment today.
Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja announced the verdict after the defendants pleaded guilty to bringing 80 grams of heroin.
According to the international agreement that Sri Lanka has signed, the judge ordered to take steps to extradite the defendants to Iran to serve prison sentences.
