A protest organized against the handing over of Homagama Hospital to the Faculty of Medicine of NSBM Green University, which is to be started under the new education reforms proposed by the government, was held in front of the Ministry of Health today.
The agitators say that Homagama Hospital is a hospital affiliated to the Faculty of Medicine of Sri Jayewardenepura University and the responsible authorities should withdraw the decision to sell it to Homagama Hospital.
Both private medical colleges established earlier, Uthuru Colombo Private Medical College and Saitam Medical College, were abandoned due to student protests. But Kotalawala Defense College has a private Faculty of Medicine and student organizations have not made any protest against it.
