Woman who ran over dog in vehicle remanded in custody.

Although we have seen many instances of the law being enforced for the benefit of people in our society, a rare instance of a court ruling for the life of an animal was witnessed at the Homagama Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Blackie, a community dog living in Alubogahawatta Lane at Pannipitiya Vidyala Junction, was a beloved animal by all the residents of that lane. On November 14th, Blackie died tragically after being run over by a car driven by a woman. On the 16th, residents of Alubogahawatta Lane filed a complaint with the Kottawa Police alleging that the woman intentionally caused the accident and CCTV evidence was also presented in this regard.

Accordingly, the Homagama Magistrate’s Court has ordered the suspect woman driver, who was arrested by the Kottawa Police, to be remanded until December 9th.

‘Blackie’, who was the protector of everyone living in Alubogahawatta Lane, was able to win the love and kindness of everyone. Residents of the area say that Blackie, who was fed and looked after by the surrounding community, did not harass anyone.
