A woman has died and her husband has been hospitalized in a motorcycle accident in the Millagahamula area on the Hatton-Colombo main road.
The accident occurred when the motorcycle tried to overtake a lorry traveling from Colombo to Watawala carelessly at a winding area. While trying to overtake the lorry, the motorcycle skidded and overturned. The woman who was riding behind it at that time was thrown under the lorry and crushed under its rear wheel, police said.
The deceased in the accident is a 44-year-old mother of two named Nai Janiri Igram, a resident of the Mohideen Masjid area in Maradana. The driver of the lorry has been arrested on suspicion, police said.
