Amidst the backdrop of differing opinions being expressed in society regarding the observance of two Poya days this month, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that everyone should abide by the decisions taken by the Maha Sangha regarding it.
He said this while responding to a question raised by journalists regarding the Poya days that have fallen this month. He emphasized that as Buddhists, the guidance of the Mahanayake Theros should be accepted without question.
The former President also stated that regardless of the prevailing controversy, this year’s Vesak festival will be celebrated with great pomp and ceremony as usual.
Expressing further views, he said:
“We should accept what the Mahanayake Theros say. We cannot question it, right or wrong. If the Mahanayake Theros have taken a decision, we should abide by it. We will celebrate Vesak this time as usual.”
