John Keells CG Auto has responded to comments made on social media and in the media regarding a batch of BYD electric vehicles imported into Sri Lanka.
In a statement, they stated that the vehicles they imported were imported directly from BYD in China and that they fully complied with all local regulations.
The company emphasizes that the imported vehicles are 100 kW models similar to those sold in regulated international markets such as Singapore, and that the vehicles were imported through proper legal channels and with full transparency.
The company had issued the relevant statement commenting on the issues that have arisen in the classification of the vehicles.
Media reports were published yesterday that about 1000 BYD vehicles were seized by Sri Lanka Customs due to an issue of non-declaration of the capacity of this vehicle batch.
The media had reported that vehicles with a 150 kW motor were imported as 100 kW vehicles. Accordingly, allegations are being made that a 150 kW vehicle has been released after paying the tax due for a vehicle with a 100 kW motor. Member of Parliament Mujibur Rahman had also revealed the facts in this regard.
However, in the relevant statement, John Keells Company further confirmed that it is in discussions with the relevant regulatory authorities to clarify any issues. The statement further states that all the necessary documents have already been submitted.
