Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Chaturanga Abeysinghe says that the Sri Lanka Tattoo Association has requested that the tattoo industry in the country be regulated and that the necessary quality and correct parameters be established for that purpose.
He said this after the Ceylon Tattoo Convention 2025 organized by Ayana Events. The exhibition, which was held at the BMICH premises for three days on March 21, 22, 23, was attended by more than 90 international tattoo artists and competitors.
Commenting on this, Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe said, “There are currently about 5,000 artists engaged in the tattoo industry in Sri Lanka. It is a combination of art, technology and culture. Currently, there are artists who are earning big dollars in this industry. We also met some who have established their services in countries like England, Singapore and Thailand.
Unlike other services, their only request is to regulate this industry and establish quality parameters. They say that the industry is at risk due to unorganized and unqualified service providers. The Ministry of Industry and Health should jointly create a program on this.”
