” we drink what we brew ” A new concept from Lal Kantha

The concept of “We grow – we eat” originated during the time when we were island dwellers and there was no globalization or international trade relations during that era, said Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation Minister K. D. Lal Kantha.

Accordingly, although the concept of ” we drink what we brew ” can be agreed upon, he stated that it is time to move away from the concept of “We grow – we eat”.

He said that if we continue to hold on to the concept of “We grow – we eat”, we will have to avoid eating even things like apples, even Mysore lentils, he said.

However, we should not deviate from the issue of cultivation and the government is planning to completely stop importing rice from abroad from 2028.

He made this statement at the “Aqua Planet Sri Lanka -2025” exhibition organized by the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic Resources and Oceans under the theme “A Prosperous Tomorrow through Aquatic Resources”.
