Although the Provincial Council elections have not yet been officially called, political sources say that Tamil political parties have already begun discussions to form a broad alliance to face them.
It is reported that these discussions are progressing successfully as the Tamil political parties in the North and East have realized the need to contest the Provincial Council elections together since the National People’s Party obtained a large number of votes in the Tamil areas in the last general election.
It is reported that these discussions are being held under the leadership of Varadaraja Perumal, who was elected as the Chief Minister of the North and East Provincial Council in the first Provincial Council elections held in the country.
