United National Party Chairman and former Minister Vajira Abeywardena commented on the removal of Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara’s robes by prison officials.
He noted that Father Mathew Peiris, an Anglican priest accused of two murders, was brought to court wearing his religious attire—a white cassock.
“We see no issue with Father Mathew Peiris being allowed to wear his religious attire. The problem here is the allegation that authorities are acting with the intention of targeting Buddhism,” he said.
