Unmaintained and Dilapidated Rest Houses to be Handed Over to U.D.A.

It has been decided to take over government-owned rest houses that have fallen into disrepair due to poor management and governance. So far, 44 such rest houses have been identified.

The management and control of these properties—established across the island since the colonial period—were previously entrusted to the Urban Development Authority (UDA) and local government authorities.

These rest houses, built during the colonial era, are located in attractive areas. Attention is now being given to restoring those that have deteriorated, adapting them to the current economic environment, and using them as income-generating assets.

Steps are being taken to develop these locations, improve infrastructure, and provide profitable, high-quality services to both local and foreign tourists, thereby promoting income generation.
