Tsunami waves hit Russia and Japan.

The first tsunami waves from an earthquake off the east coast of Russia were observed in northern Japan, foreign media reported.

NHK broadcaster reported that the tsunami reached 30 centimeters.

The Japan Meteorological Agency earlier said that tsunami waves of up to three meters were expected along the northern and eastern coasts of Japan from Osaka to Wakayama, south of the city.

Japan’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency said that no injuries or damage had been reported so far.

More than 900,000 people have been evacuated from 133 municipalities along the Japanese coast stretching from Hokkaido to Okinawa.

However, foreign media reported that a tsunami wave as high as 13 feet reached the Kamchatka Peninsula due to the earthquake off the east coast of Russia.

A powerful 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Russia early this morning (30).

The quake struck about 85 miles from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia, at a depth of 19 kilometers, according to the USGS.

Tsunami warnings were also issued for coastal areas in Japan following the quake, with the country’s meteorological agency warning of waves of up to 1 meter.
