Wildlife officers were able to rescue a leopard that had been chasing a prey and had fallen down a water hole in the quarry after sustaining injuries.
A leopard fell from a height of about 60 feet in a quarry in the Holbrook area of the Agarapatana police division and was injured. The owner of the quarry informed the Nuwara Eliya Wildlife Office through the Agarapatana police.
Dr. Akalanka Pinidiya of the Randenigala Veterinary Hospital arrived at the scene and rescued the leopard that had fallen into a water hole using a cage and sent it to the Udawalawe Veterinary Hospital for treatment.
Veterinarian Akalanka Pinidiya said that the leopard’s hind legs were severely injured after falling from the top of the quarry.
