The Jana Aragala Sandhanaya (People’s Struggle Alliance) submitted its nominations for the local government institutions in the Gampaha district. Speaking to the media, the National Executive Member of the Alliance, Wasantha Mudalige, said that the government has deceived the people who voted for it and is targeting only the super rich and providing relief.
Therefore, he urged the people to vote for the umbrella symbol of the People’s Struggle Alliance to fulfill the needs of their villages and towns. Expressing further, he said:
“Today, we, as the People’s Struggle Alliance, have submitted nominations for all local government institutions. The corrupt political camps that have ruled the country for years are launching various conspiracies to come to power again. It is because of certain decisions taken by the government that those corrupt gangs are being allowed to come to the fore. This time, the 2025 budget did not provide as much relief as they were promised. At least, the taxes imposed on essential food items were not removed as promised during the election. Instead, the special commodity tax was increased even before the budget.in families
Although it has not given any tax relief to the people, the government is currently giving tax relief worth crores to the wealthy. This time, the government has taken a decision in the budget to pay the unpaid taxes within six months. If they do, do not charge interest and fines from those companies. This will cause a loss of more than 400 billion rupees to the government.
