There is no money to feed the armed forces. 30,000 soldiers leave the army in two years.

The Committee on Public Finance (COPF) revealed yesterday that about 30,000 soldiers have left the armed forces since 2021.

This was revealed when the supplementary estimate of 16.5 billion rupees to be used to settle the arrears of food suppliers to the army was accepted.

Defense forces officials who attended the COPF meeting informed that one defense force member needs food that can provide 3400 calories per day. They had informed the COPF that it was difficult to procure food to provide the necessary nutrition to the security forces. COPF chief Harsha de Silva emphasized that it should be ensured that the funds are used effectively.
