Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has appreciated the reduction of the reciprocal tariff rate imposed on Sri Lanka by the US to 20%.
In a post on the ‘X’ social media platform, MP Premadasa said that this is an amendment that will also affect Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Bangladesh.
India has been imposed a tariff of 25%.
“I am happy that the US has reduced the tariff on Sri Lankan goods to 20%. We are at par with Vietnam and Bangladesh while India has to pay 25%. We should aim to reduce the tariff to 15% to provide real relief to our exporters. We should have a team of trade economists to lead the negotiations,” he added.
The Opposition Leader made these comments after the United States officially confirmed today that Sri Lanka’s reciprocal tariff rate will be 20%.
