A legal controversy has arisen following the court ruling in Arugam Bay against a Thai tourist who walked topless on the road.
The way in which the foreigner’s sexuality was interpreted in relation to the foreigner who was thus exposed is being questioned on social media.
Accordingly, it is being speculated that the person is transgender. To prove this, a photo of a page of the person’s passport is being shared on social media. According to the photo, its gender is mentioned as M (male), and Mr. is mentioned before the name.

The 26-year-old Thai tourist was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence by the Pottuvil Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to charges of indecent behavior and disturbing public peace. However, if the person is a man, the sentence is questionable because in Sri Lanka, it is not considered an offence for a man to be topless.
The man, who was produced before the Pottuvil Magistrate’s Court, was sentenced to five years and two months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years.
