President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that the decision to extend the retirement age of judges was not targeted at an individual or a group, but was taken for the common good of the country. The President said this while attending a meeting with the Bar Association of Sri Lanka held at the Presidential Secretariat this afternoon (12).
The President further pointed out that this amendment is only one link in the comprehensive reforms to resolve the problems of the entire system, and that it is not his personal opinion or the sole opinion of the government.
During this successful discussion that lasted for almost an hour, attention was drawn to the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution regarding the extension of the retirement age of judges, and the views and suggestions of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka were also presented in this regard.
The President, who paid attention to all the issues presented here, explained the government’s position on the matter and the measures the government has planned for the improvement of the judicial system, the Presidential Media Division said.
