The Prime Minister’s helicopter takes off the roof of the Matara Rest House.

According to the report, the roof of the Matara Rest House was damaged when Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena landed his helicopter to the Mathara Fort to attend the funeral of former minister Ronnie de Mel.

This situation has arisen due to strong winds when the helicopter landed at the Matara Fort stadium. Due to this, a significant portion of the necessary food and drinks prepared for the customers, had to be disposed of, a spokesman told the media.

However, the pilots managed to land the helicopter without causing any harm to the passengers including the Prime Minister who came to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Minister Ronnie de Mel.

The manager of the Matara Rest House said that this situation was caused by the strong sea breeze at that time.
