According to a plan by retired Senior DIG Priyantha Jayakody, it has been revealed who made threatening phone calls to Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles, Police Administration Division Chief Senior DIG Lalith Pathinayake and Deshabandu Tennakoon in the name of Kehelbaddara Padme, a powerful criminal in the underworld.
The Criminal Investigation Department has now confirmed that these calls were made from Dubai by a businessman who frequently travels to Dubai for business purposes.
The businessman is a 31-year-old resident of Watthalpola, Panadura, who is engaged in a business of importing perfumes and other goods from Dubai to the country. He was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department on the 20th.
The Criminal Investigation Department states that information regarding Priyantha Jayakody was revealed during his interrogation.
Although Priyantha Jayakody has admitted that he knows the businessman, he has told the Criminal Investigation Department that the phone calls were not made as part of his plan and that he does not know anything about it.
The businessman has said that Priyantha Jayakody first instructed him to threaten Senior DIG Lalith Pathinayake and former Minister Tiran Alles and then himself by making phone calls. The Criminal Investigation Department has found WhatsApp messages exchanged between the two on the businessman’s mobile phone.
The businessman has also told the Criminal Investigation Department that when he went to Dubai for business, he obtained a SIM card from the country and made the threatening calls as per the instructions given by Priyantha Jayakody.
He also stated that he inserted the SIM card into a phone, opened a WhatsApp account in the name of Kehelbaddara Padme, and then made calls through WhatsApp.
