Foreign media reports that 40 civilians, including three Afghan cricketers, have been killed in an airstrike by Pakistan. The country’s cricket board confirms that the attack was carried out solely targeting civilians and that the three players who were having dinner at a house after a cricket match were killed in the attack.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), which issued a statement on the incident, said that the three players, Kabir Agha, Zibghatullah and Haroon, were killed in the Pakistani airstrike. The statement said that the players, although not representing their country’s national team, were playing in the domestic cricket tournament.
Afghanistan’s cricket board has said it will pull out of a tri-nation T20 series with Pakistan next month in protest over the attack.
However Pakistan, says its attack was aimed at militants and not civilians. Afghan officials say 40 civilians were killed and 170 wounded in the attack.
