State Minister for Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that a budget report will not be presented for the year 2025 and instead an interim standard account will be presented.
Accordingly, the minister stated that the government has decided to present an interim standard account for the first quarter of the year instead of a budget document for the year 2025.
He further said that interim standard accounts have been passed in this manner before a major election too.
He said that the government has plenty of opportunities to include more attractive proposals and present budget proposals for the next year with the presidential election approaching, but following a more democratic step accepted by the world, the president as the head of state has taken this decision without confusing the economy, political economy and election campaign.
