The Electricity Board must be changed

The electricity sector is not up-to-date and the unbearable level of inefficiency, the institutional structure that has been tied to stagnant bureaucracy for a long time, says Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody.

Accordingly, he further stated that as an electrical engineer, he believes that those with qualifications in various fields and expertise should get new opportunities in the electricity sector.

The Minister said this while addressing a program organized by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority under the program to promote energy-efficient electrical appliances held at the Ministry of Environment Auditorium in Battaramulla on (25) regarding the introduction of energy efficiency labels for air conditioners.

The Minister further said

‘I visited India recently. The progress they have made in the power sector is very high. They have been able to make a big journey in the field by using modern technology and new concepts.

He said that the introduction of energy labels for air conditioners under the energy efficiency promotion program can increase the efficiency of air conditioners in the market, manage electricity demand nationally, and help minimize the use of fossil fuels. He said that it is expected that this will ultimately contribute to achieving environmental goals.
