The leader of the Sarvajana Balaya, MP Dilith Jayaweera, said that the rupee is currently depreciating faster than when the country’s economy collapsed in 2022.
Participating in a press conference held today (15), he said that this is because the current government is implementing its import and export policy not according to its own philosophy but according to instructions received from outside.
He further commented as follows.
“We said earlier that the dollar was going to rise. The main reason for this is that our import and export policy was not in a logical place. The government acted according to instructions received from outside. Vehicles were imported in dollars, taxes were collected in rupees. Rupees were earned and dollars were spent.”
“Today, the dollar is worth more than the rupee. A major economic crisis has already been created. Factories are in a deep crisis. The rupee has never collapsed so quickly. Even during the worst of the economic crisis, the rupee did not collapse so quickly. If decisions are not changed immediately, there will be no opportunity to gain time. The contraction of the economy will soon affect the people. Then people will react in such a way that all civil systems collapse.”
