The Constitutional Council defeats the President’s proposal for the second time

The name of H.T.P. Chandana, a member of the Board of Directors of the Petroleum Corporation, who had been proposed by the President for the position of Auditor General, was rejected for the second time in the Constitutional Council yesterday.

The proposal was discussed for the second time in the Constitutional Council yesterday, and the President’s proposal was defeated for the second time in a row with 3 votes in favor and 5 votes against.

The Constitutional Council did not agree with the President’s recommendation on the 20th and it met again yesterday to reconsider the matter. Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe also faced a similar crisis when he appointed Deshabandu Tennakoon as the Inspector General of Police.

Although more than a month has passed since the former Auditor General retired, no steps have been taken to fill the position. Officials of the department had written to President Anura Dissanayake to appoint the most senior officer of the National Data Protection Service to the position of Computer Director.
