The coal tender is extremely corrupt. The loss is more than 100 billion rupees.

The loss caused due to the import of substandard coal exceeds 100 billion rupees, and this is the first time such a huge loss has occurred since the construction of the Lakvijaya Power Plant in Nerochcholai, said MP D.V. Chanaka.

He stated this at a press conference held yesterday at the Parliament complex with the participation of MPs representing the opposition regarding the no-confidence motion against Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody, which is scheduled to be debated today.

Further expressing his views, MP D.V. Chanaka said the following.

“The Auditor General’s report states that Rs. 220 crore will be spent on additional coal alone. In addition, the report states that 141 million units will be lost due to the loss of coal ships. Then these 141 million units will have to be produced using diesel.

Now the price of diesel has increased. Then it costs Rs. 125 to produce one unit using diesel at this time. When the number of units increases by 141 million units, more than Rs. 11 billion will have to be spent on that alone.

There will be a shortage of coal in July. Then the electricity lost from Norochchola will have to be generated using diesel. Power cuts will also have to be carried out. We have said from the beginning that this coal tender is extremely corrupt. But the President, Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody and the government have always worked to cover it up. This coal scam The government has taken action through 7 channels to close it. The new Auditor General’s report also says that this coal tender is extremely corrupt…”
