The Bribery Commission becomes inactive due to the disagreement between the Executive and C.A.

The reason for the nearly one-month delay in the appointment of members for the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption is reported to be the disagreement between the Constituent Assembly (CA) and the Executive.

According to the newly adopted anti-corruption act, three members should be nominated by the executive to the commission to be established. But it is reported that only the name of the former Deputy Secretary General of the Parliament Neil Iddawela has been approved by the Legislative Council.

The Constituent Assembly has not agreed on the other two nominees proposed and two other names have not yet been adopted instead. Since those appointments have not been made, it has not been possible to fully implement the new anti-corruption act.
