The appointment of the I.G. P will not be influenced by religious leaders.

Minister of State for Defense, Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon, emphasized that the government will not yield to pressure from religious or other organizations during the appointment process of I.G.P . . He made this statement during a press conference held at the Presidential Media Center under the theme ‘One Way to a Stable Country’.

He further stated that the selection of the Inspector General of Police will consider factors such as terrorism, extremism, illegal activities, geopolitics, and crime prevention, with the country’s security being the top priority.

“As a state, we receive an annual assessment report for the next five years to ensure the security of the country. Based on this assessment, the government will take necessary actions to safeguard national security,” added the State Minister.

Both Anunayaka Kappetiyagoda Sirivimala Nahimi of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya and Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith Therapano had written to the constitution assembly and the President regarding the appointment of the Inspector General of Police.
