The issue of enacting legislation to legally terminate fetuses that have been confirmed by specialist doctors to be severely deformed was discussed in Parliament today (21).
At this, Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Ajith P Perera requested the ruling party to promptly enact and implement laws to terminate pregnancies on medical recommendations.
He pointed out that despite discussions for a long time to terminate fetuses that have been severely deformed, it has not been possible to implement it.
Responding to this, Minister of Justice and National Integration, Attorney-at-Law Harshana Nanayakkara, said that the government’s term of office will end in four and a half years, and the Minister also stated that the laws related to safe termination of pregnancy will be changed before that time.
