Teachers and principals will be sick today

It is reported that teachers and principals are going to engage in a trade union action to report sick leave today (30).

Reverend Ulapane Sumangala Thero, convener of the National Union Against Teacher-Principal Salary Disparity, said that this action is being taken due to the lack of a solution to their salary disparity.

Meanwhile, today is 29 days of the strike started by university non-academic employees based on several issues including salaries.

Priyantha Dhammika Co-Chairman of the Joint Committee of University Trade Unions, mentioned that due to the strike, academic activities in the universities have been disrupted.

The non-academic workers started the strike demanding a solution to a number of issues including the agreed monthly allowance and the 15% salary cut in 2016.

However, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Bandhula Gunawardena stated that money cannot be allocated this year to eliminate wage disparities. https://srilankanews.lk/en/here-is-the-governments-position-on-eliminating-pay-disparities/
